Voices of Change | TEDxWanchaiSalon

On October 25, in collaboration with TEDxWanchai, we will gather at Eaton House to hear stories of identity, empowerment and creative expression from across the continent of Africa. These talks come from a group of people with unique perspectives expressed through a variety of initiatives, from art expression to activism, craft design to literature, all of which actively explore the identity and cultures of the African continent and the global African diaspora. The speakers in this salon are artists, photographers, designers, and visionaries who are remaking the world around them. The live talks will be complemented with talks from the global TED stage, rounding out an evening filled with fresh insights, creativity and heart.

Precious Cargo

Precious Cargo references a play about Khoisan woman Saartjie Baartman - who was bought under colonisation and exhibited as a “freak” around Europe. With this history as its departure point, DGI’s exhibition dismantles the objectification of “African” artists. Precious Cargo explores new narratives where both viewer and artists are confronted with their own insecurities and ignorances.

Unbiased Perspectives

In genuine connection and the fluidity of the world we live in there lies a perceptible innocence. It unites us and opens doors to a world unknown - even if we cannot see it. Capturing the moment of this innocence, giving it a shape immune to our biases and making it accessible – this is what guides us.
